Digital Hardware: Teacher Procedures

- Review Teacher Responsibilities
- Check out hardware cart from the assigned storage location: MLS 102, Library, or Computer Lab.
Mandatory: The hardware cart MUST be brought back to the assigned storage location by the end of the day OR other arrangements must be made with Mr. Matejka.
Before moving the cart from the assigned storage location do the following:
- Compare the number of devices with the expected actual number of devices.
- Turn power switch on the cart to the OFF position.
- Unplug any cords or cables that are plugged into a wall outlet.
- Wrap power cords around the cord winders. (No cables should drag on the ground).
Setting up Cart in Classroom:
- Place cart near an electrical outlet.
- Cart should be accessible but not likely to be bumped. Cart should be kept away from food and liquids.
- Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
- Push power switch on the cart to the ON position.
- If the cart is not charging… check the reset button on the power strip.
- Unlock cart.
Using Mobile Devices in the Classroom:
- Review Teacher Responsibilities page.
- Review the Student Handbook: Technology Acceptable Use Policy page.
- For ACCOUNTABILITY: Distribute electronics by assigning to individual students. Use a
class roster. Students are to always use that specific assigned hardware piece.
- If a student MUST use a device other than the number assigned to them, please make use of the Roster Clipboard attached to the cart.
Student Saving:
- It is recommended that students make use of their assigned Cloud Storage space. Elementary Students: Gaggle.net. Middle School (6-8): ISU WebVPN
- Windows Computers: Students should create a folder on the “Thawspace” drive and save their files within them.
- Apple Computers: Students should create a folder in the “Documents” folder and save their files within them.
- When project is complete, their folder and documents should be deleted from the computer/device by the student.
Collecting the Laptops:
- Begin collection process early enough so it is not rushed.
- Ask students to SAVE their work to the cloud or a flash drive, DELETE anything downloaded to the desktop, and SHUT DOWN laptop. Make sure SCREEN is BLACK before closing lid.
- Collect hardware in a systematic way.
- Each hardware piece should go in the CORRECT slot and be PLUGGED IN. Teacher should put a check on the sheet to mark a laptop as returned.
- Cart should be locked and plugged in so laptops are charging.
- The digital hardware cart MUST be returned to the assigned storage location at the end of EACH day, or prior storage arrangements made with Mr. Matejka.
Returning the Hardware Cart:
- Check for Physical or Software Issues and report them immediately.
- Make sure all student work has been saved.
- Turn power switch on cart to the OFF position.
- Unplug any cords or cables that are plugged into a wall jack or outlet.
- Wrap power cords around cord winders. No cables should drag on the ground.
- Wheel cart to the assigned storage at the end of your scheduled use. The cart needs to be available for the next person!
Once in the assigned storage location:
- Plug in power cord.
- Turn power switch to the ON position.
